Explore the alleys of Kirtipur and appreciate the local culture where tourists hardly go. Enjoy a local Newar lunch at a local kitchen and then hike paddies all the way to a Lake, where Siberian birds come during migration.
The edges of Kathmandu are great for discovery. On this day experience, we drive first to the western hill settlement of Kirtipur, once a kingdom of its own, and the first one to fall during the invasion of Kathmandu Valley that started the unification of Nepal.
The town is inhabited by the Newars, one of the most artistic and talented people in the valley. Reknown for the delicacies they cook, we taste some of this at a kicthen that works like a museum, wher every dish is prepared from scratch.
Later we walk the suburban lanes and agricultural lands to reach the Taudaha Lake, famous for the migratory birds that come there during winter all the way from Siberia.
A variation of this trip starts in the morning and tours Kirtipur and make the walk to reach the Kevin Rohan Memorial eco-village, where we have lunch at a restaurant built inside a bottle house, which uses bio-dynamically grown ingredients in the food.
