The Nepal Visa Process (Simple Version)

Let’s be honest: government processes are rarely crystal clear. So we’ll keep this practical. If anything feels confusing at any point, just write to us—we’re happy to help.

Step 1: Start at the Official Website

All visa applications begin here:

https://nepaliport.immigration.gov.np/

This is the only official Government of Nepal visa site.

⚠️ Avoid scam websites—there are many, and most have nothing to do with Nepal visas.

From here, you’ll fill one of two forms:

• Visa from Nepali Mission (Embassy/Consulate)

• Electronic Travel Authorisation (ETA) – this is the most useful option for most travellers

The ETA (Recommended Option)

The ETA makes arrival much smoother and saves a lot of time at the airport.

How it works

1. Fill out the online ETA form

2. Submit it

3. Wait for approval (usually a few days)

   • If it’s taking too long and you’re travelling with us, let us know—we can follow up locally

4. Pay the visa fee online and save the payment receipt

   • If online payment doesn’t work for you, we can pay it here and settle it when you arrive (same price, no service fee if you’re travelling with us)

On arrival in Nepal

Walk straight to the Immigration counter with your ETA payment receipt (digital or printed) and get your passport stamped.

Already Have a Visa?

If you received your visa from a Nepali Embassy or Consulate, simply go straight to Immigration on arrival.

Visa on Arrival (If You Didn’t Apply Online)

Didn’t apply in advance? No problem.

1. Use the Visa Kiosks in the arrivals hall (or connect to the airport Wi-Fi—it works sometimes)

2. Fill out the Visa on Arrival form

3. Take the confirmation (printout or photo of the screen)

4. Pay the visa fee at the cash counter

5. Go to Immigration with the receipt

It works—but it’s slower and more hassle after a long flight.

Top Tips (Read This)

• Best option: Fill the ETA form at least 2 weeks before arrival, get approval, then pay online

• If you arrive without paying online, you may be asked to reapply at the airport—not hard, just annoying

• Workaround: You can also fill the Visa on Arrival form about 10 days before travel and pay online

  • Downside: this is not pre-approved—final approval only happens when you land

  • ETA is more secure and smoother
