Recognition from the Industry

Every time we hear from the industry that we have been mentioned somewhere, nominated for an award, made a guidebook etc, its gives us all a big boost that we are indeed working in the right direction! Of late, we have had mention on Lonely Planet, Trip Advisor, National Geographic Adventure, A korean Guide Book on Ethical Travel, an Italian Guidebook on Nepal, the Ethical Travel Guidebook from Tourism Concern etc. Any news pertaining to these mentions are all listed here.

We might have missed some! Do let us know if you see us somewhere not listed here!

savethechildrenA historic day for socialtours as it reaches eight years of operation in May 2010. Today, Raj Gyawali, Founder Director, socialtours and Brian Hunter, Country Director, Save the Children, Nepal & Bhutan, signed a contract to promote social tourism and fundraise to support children's issues in Nepal. socialtours on a Korean guide book!

Since last year, socialtours.com has been mentioned in a Fair Travel Guide Book written by Imagine Peace Group from Korea. It is even written in Korean so it might be interesting for Korean readers. The only mistake they made was put the website (the most important part) as www.socialtour.com instead of www.socialtours.com. So anyone reading this will reach a golf tour called socialtour in the States instead of our website.

Green Circuit on Irish Times

In a article entitled Roads less travelled, Catherine Mack writes this about the Green Circuit

"Travelling ethically on a land mass as vast as the Indian subcontinent has been made so much easier with the recent creation of the Green Circuit (thegreencircuit.net). From the Blue Yonder, in Kerala (theblueyonder.com), to Social Tours, in Nepal (socialtours.com), experiences vary greatly, including a yak safari into the trans-Himalayan deserts, monitoring elephant-migration corridors in eastern Himalaya and learning traditional drumming with villagers living along Kerala’s River Nila."

socialtours on Lonely Planet
logo_lpIt took seven long years, but finally, socialtours has made it in the Sep 2009 edition of Lonely Planet. Mind you, our phone number (4412508) has been there for a long long time, as Lonely Planet never updated the listing under Adventure Nepal Trekking, which was in the same office as ours, about 11 years ago! Find us on Page 72, under Responsible Tourism and Volunteering. The writing says, "Social Tours (www.socialtours.com) can arrange volunteer placements as part of treks in Nepal". Ok, thats not all we do, but its a start.
