This place has the best Belgian french fries in town and is well known for its (fried) fast food. Their momos are slightly bigger and of course you also get them fried. Try samosas, although they take a longer time to prepare, but wait is worth. Great place to grab some snacks.
If we're not eating Sakuntala's delicious lunch at the office, you will probably find the socialtours staff at Namaste. From Momos to Chowmin you get everything in short time and way cheaper than the tourist hotspots. This is definitely the cheapest but best local food near the office, just 50 meters away.
Located in the quieter area of Thamel, in the street between Garden of Dreams and Himalayan Java, this restaurant is notable for its most relaxing courtyards and attractive beer garden. It has a relaxing atmosphere that doesn't feel so crowded as the rest of Thamel and is good for lunch or dinner. They mostly serve Tibetan, Bhutanese, Indian and Nepali dishes and sets, of which the Tibetan hot pot is very well known.
Located in the inner courtyard of Mandala Street, this restaurant has a nice atmosphere with a mixed menu. Their pasta is good and it is usually a safe place to eat their delicious salads. Watch out for special gigs, sometimes they might have live music.
Their asset is the music, which together with the outside seating space and good Mexican, Continental and Nepali cuisine makes an overall enjoyable restaurant. To find this place, head north from Kathmandu Guest House and take the next street left.
In this affordable restaurant you will find a limited but good menu that is actually not handed out to people but written on a big board.
Craving for stone oven pizza? This is your place. It is so popular, you should consider reserving a table in high season. You will find the restaurant at Tridevi Marg where the Himalayan Bank has its head office.
A place that always works for lunch. Their snack menu and stick items are popular amongst the socialtours staff, but they also offer a great variety of full dishes. Tip: If you enter, continue through the inside seating and find their nice backyard garden. It's definitly a nice place to hang out, also for bigger groups, that won't empty your wallet completely. Their location is a bit tricky to find, but you can ask us any time to get directions.
This is a nice hangout where everything works. There is a reason why this ranks in the top 10 restaurants in Kathmandu on Tripadvisor.
Another place with thin crust pizza that has a nice ambiance as well.
Helena’s probably offers the highest roof top terrace in town, where you can enjoy nice views over crowded Kathmandu. But decide yourself if you want to climb up to the top or stay in one of the cozy dining rooms. The restaurant is well known for the friendly staff and good breakfast, but also the other food is recommended. The restaurant is located down the street in southern direction from Kathmandu Guest House.
Rum Doodle is a famous travelers-in and well known for its yeti footprints that can be filled out and added to the walls that are already plastered with many verdicts of previous travelers. It is especially good for ending a trip or celebrating something and you will get decent western dishes, snacks and drinks.
Himalayan Java is the Starbucks of Nepal. Their flagship are coffee and special coffee creations, but also breakfast or walnut brownies are good. If you want to buy coffee beans or grounded coffee, do it there. Himalayan Java has two outlets in Thamel: one directly at the entrance at Tridevi Marg next to Garden of Dreams and the other in Mandala Street, the only vehicle free walking street in Thamel.
If you want fresh bakeries you are probably going to end up here. They also offer other food and a nice place to be. Just like Helena's restaurant and Roadhouse, they are located down the street in southern direction from Kathmandu Guest House.
