Overview

Pikey Peak trek is a newly opened trekking destination in the Solu(lower Solukhumbhu) Region. Pikey Peak is a one of the tallest" Hills" in the Solukhumbu region. The name Pikey is derived from the name of a Sherpa Clan deity. During the month of July the locals hold different celebrations to worship their clan god. This peak offers a majestic view of the Everest Himalayan Range.

The trail passes through beautiful settlements and you can visit the ancient Buddhist Monastery of Thupten Chholing and enjoy the unique Sherpa culture. During the festival season in August cleansing rituals at the sacred lakes are performed with several important Shamans. The Pikey Danda (hill in Nepali) is most popular for its sunrise and sunset views and one can enjoy the sight of seven 8000-metre peaks: Kanchenjunga, Makalu, Everest, Lhotse, Manaslu, Annapurna and Shishapangma in Tibet and numerous other peaks like GauriShanker, Lhotseshar, Nuptse, AmaDablem, Mera and Thamserku. The trekking is organized in a combination of camping and lodges home stays.

Itinerary

 

27 Mar - Drive to Dhap. (2932m) 

This is on a shared jeep that starts from Kathmandu at around 0530 hours and will take around six to eight hours to reach Dhap. Once there we stay in a lodge.

28 Mar - Dhap - Jhapre (2829m)

This is a five to six hour walk. Usually a trekking day starts after breakfast at the lodge and we walk a few hours before stopping for lunch at a local place, before continuing on. At Jhapre we sleep in a homestay sort of lodge.

29 Mar - Jhapre - Pikey Peak (4065m) 

Today is our climb day and it will take about six hours to reach our camp site. We stop at the cheese factory and this might take some additional time. Today we camp and the crew will be carrying tents. This is an alpine style with dry food and a trim crew.

30 Mar - Pikey Peak - Junbesi (2700m)

Morning sunrise and Everest views from Pikey peak. Today is our longest walk and this will be around eight hours to Junbesi. A portion of the trek is in the old trail to Everest. We are back in lodges tonight

31 Mar - Junbesi - Phaplu (2390m)

This is a shorter trek day and will take only four - five hours to reach the airport village at Phaplu. If we reach early, we can even go up to the Tibetan Monastery above Phaplu and return back. Overnight at a lodge

01 Apr – Kathmandu

Fly to Kathmandu. Alternatively, drive to Kathmandu for about ten hours.
